My Personal Philosophy
‘I believe that all children need time to play independently and learn through their experiences and their environments’
Play for a child is how they learn, how they develop and how they find themselves and discover who they are. I believe that through play children can use their real world experiences while developing and learning in their immediate environment, by ‘doing’ themselves. For children/students to adapt to a new setting or place, using a play-based environment is essential for the child/student to feel settled and comfort in their environment.
I feel that providing children with play in a real world sense based on their environment can achieve outcomes from their personal perspectives and make that connection from home-school/pre-school setting. Giving children the experiences and time they need in play is essential for the guidelines of the above frameworks and vital to their development.
‘I believe that working, as a team in every environment is essential for caring for and fostering the leaning and development of young children in my care’
Providing for young children is something that I do not take lightly. When it comes to caring for young children in any setting, communication amongst the support network is essential for providing the best outcome of children’s learning and development.
I feel that by building the strong relationships with staff and implementing a team environment in the setting, will affect the children’s opportunities for learning and development in a positive way in my workplace.
When working in such an imperative profession, as a early childhood/primary educator, proving the children/students with knowledgeable sources is important for the developmental process. Having a team goal or standard for children’s learning and development is essential while working in a team.
‘I highly value the importance of building strong collaborative partnerships with parents families and the communities in which the children are a part of and using communication as a part of this collaboration’
Along with my belief in teamwork amongst colleagues in the workplace, I feel that the partnerships that are built with parents, families and communities are just as important to the child/students learning and development. As an educator I feel that by building these collaborative partnerships with parents and families, we can support their child/student to the best of their own individual ability.
Being an educator of young children and striving for their own excellence, I feel that this is not achievable without the strong communication and collaboration amongst the parents, families and myself.
‘I believe it is crucial to respect all children, families and communities and their diverse social and cultural backgrounds when understanding young children'
Planning for children as individuals is something I aspire too. Although, this can be challenging without knowing the child, their family’s background and their social/cultural community they grow up in. This is why I feel that it is so important to gain knowledge on the child/student before I am able to plan for their interests and plan effectively to their development.
‘I believe that promoting a child’s health, safety and wellbeing (also physical) is essential to their growth and development’
As young children grow and develop they need guidance in regards to their health, safety, wellbeing and physical aspects of all of these. Children need to feel safe and secure in their own self, this can be done by developing their own individual wellbeing.
As well as developing a child’s wellbeing, physically I believe children need to be active and engaged in their setting.
‘In the forever changing social and technological world, I believe it is of great importance that young children have access to technology in their learning and play to enhance their capabilities for their futures’
Technology and teaching are beginning to become something that comes hand-in-hand while in the classroom and early years settings. Providing children with the knowledge and skills they will need in their forever changing future is something that I feel must not be overlooked. Many children now have the exposure to technology in their life which is why I feel that continuing this involvement in the early years and primary years setting is so important.
In the forever changing society and culture, influences for these young children regarding technology will be necessary for the young children once the reach higher education and even the early years settings. As an educator I feel it is my influences, which will enhance the children/students learning for their technological future.
‘I feel that the interactions and relationship that form between young children and between young child and adults is fundamental to their learning and development’
Children developing relationships through interactions are so important for their learning and development and for them to strive for the best in their future. As an educator providing children with the attentiveness for opportunities of conversation and discussion, not only develops their personal skills, this is also giving the child a sense of belonging and elf-esteem.
For children, interacting with other children and adults is essentially vital for their development in many aspects across their life. As the children are experiencing such a variety of community beliefs, sharing these with adults and peers can develop and share each other’s knowledge.
‘Throughout my experience and tertiary education, I have found that evaluation and reflection are a vast part of everyday occurrences in my development to ensure I provide the paramount outcomes of each and every child in my care’
The processes of reflection and evaluation offer educators ways to work with partners to strengthen all children’s learning. I feel so strongly regarding the relevance of using evaluation and reflection since this does affect how I plan and implement experiences for children/students. If I am not evaluating or reflecting on planning and programming and my personal reflective practice, this can and will affect the children/ students in my care/classroom.
As well as reflecting and evaluating my immediate surroundings, this will allow me to keep up to date with changing demands, curriculums, strengths, needs, potentials and constraints in the early childhood or primary years setting. I believe that when reflecting, it is essential to move beyond merely describing events to identify and examine my values and ideas and to investigate how different theories could extend my work.
