During my teaching rounds with the grade 5 students at Jells Park Primary School, I was given a large amount of opportunities to teach the whole class of grade 5 students during my first ever teaching experiences within a primary school. I took this opportunity and the respect that I had been given by my mentor, and worked my hardest at planning and providing the students with lesson plans or units of work that ran for 3-4 sessions, which they would be learning and challenged by the curriculum i had prepared.
The students were not feeling confident when it came to mapping, coordinates, compass directions etc. and my mentor teacher noted this to means suggested that i might focus on a single lesson or a series of lessons to develop and extend the students knowledge in these areas.
When planning for this particular sequence of lessons, I needed to come up with engaging topics, teaching techniques and activities that the students would find challenging and interesting.
Lesson Plans
As I developed the individual lesson plans for the sequence of lessons, I was assisted by my mentor with support and ideas on how to keep the students engaged and classroom control while teaching.

The three lesson plans above were constructed to align with each other and to provide the students with connection between each lesson. I felt that this lesson plan worked really well and the students were able to transfer the knowledge they had constructed in the lesson prior and bring the next lesson. At the end of the lesson sequence the students were proud of their abilities they had developed. They were able to follow the instructions and clues on their treasure hunt directions and use their knowledge that I had provided to complete activity.
