(3 PIctures students could chose from to write their article on)
At Jells Park Primary school working with the grade 5's was a great opportunity for me and took this opportunity and gained as much teaching skills and confidence as I could from this experience.
Working on paragraphing with the grade 5 class was something that was developed between myself and my mentor and was preparing the class for their NAPLAN tests and their writing skills.
I felt that from developing a sense of a paragraph and how the paragraph should be set out would allow students to become more confident in their writing skills and ensure they are preparing wisely for their tests.
I developed the sequence of lessons based on developing a paragraph and then turning these paragraphs into an article or something the students would be creative with and enjoy.
The following lessons plans, I developed for the students to gain more confidence in their paragraphing skills, their skills in developing a draft for a piece of writing and then putting their writing together for a final copy. Please click on the numbered links to view lesson plans;
- The 5w's Chart to develop students thinking
- Paragraphing skills
- Developing a draft
- Developing final copy of newspaper article
The above lesson plans and activity were designed to connect with each other and show the students the importance of preparing for their writing and using a draft to ensure they have proof read and developed writing that flows and makes sense. I felt that the unit of work went well and the students all enjoyed their newspaper article writing while using their imagination.
